Cyber threats targeting lawyers continue to evolve, and even small firms are increasingly becoming targets. Building on the issues raised in our recent risk management program, this follow-up session takes a deeper dive into the practical cybersecurity risks facing law practices today. These include email compromise, ransomware demands, and the insurance coverage issues that arise when something goes wrong.
On Tuesday, May 19th, ISBA Mutual hosts Cyber Risk for Lawyers: Protecting Your Firm from Email Fraud, Ransomware, and Emerging Technology Threats. Using real-world scenarios and claims insights, our speaker will walk through how cyber incidents occur, how they affect law firms, and the steps attorneys can take to protect client data, firm finances, and their professional obligations.
Rather than treating cybersecurity as an abstract concern, this session delivers concrete, actionable guidance tailored to Illinois attorneys and small to midsize firms. Presented by Charlie Altenbach, Founder and President of DP3 Tech, this lunch-and-learn seminar focuses on where the real risks lie and what lawyers can do right now to reduce their exposure.
During the May Cyber Risk for Lawyers session, attendees will gain practical guidance on:
How common cyber attacks against law firms actually occur, including email compromise, wire fraud, and ransomware schemes
Practical steps attorneys and small firms can take to identify suspicious emails and prevent cyber intrusions
What types of cyber insurance coverage may respond to attacks such as ransomware demands and data breaches
Key cybersecurity practices every firm should implement, including documentation, verification procedures, and internal controls
Lessons learned from real-world claims and risk management cases involving technology failures and fraud
How lawyers can stay informed about new scams and emerging technology risks, including AI-related threats
