In 2026, artificial intelligence is part of everyday legal practice. AI offers tools that can accelerate research, streamline workflows, and reduce administrative burden. But while AI can enhance efficiency, it is not a substitute for professional judgment, ethical decision-making, or client relationships.
On Tuesday, April 28th, ISBA Mutual hosts High Tech vs. High Touch: When to Apply AI Solutions & Virtual Assistants in Your Law Firm. This timely hybrid session takes a practical, even-handed look at how Illinois lawyers can thoughtfully integrate AI into their practices, all while preserving the human elements that define effective lawyering.
Rather than framing technology as an all-or-nothing choice, the session focuses more on the nuances surrounding AI, virtual assistants, and staffing. Presented by Chicago law firm owner Janice “Apple” Dantes, this seminar focuses on where each offers the most value without forcing law firms to compromise on quality, professionalism, or client trust.
During April’s High Tech vs. High Touch session, attendees will gain practical guidance on:
Identifying law-firm tasks that are well-suited for AI tools versus those that require human judgment and oversight
Understanding where automation adds efficiency—and where over-reliance can create ethical, quality, or client-service risks
Integrating AI alongside virtual assistants and staff without disrupting workflows or accountability
Recognizing common pitfalls lawyers encounter when adopting new technology too quickly
Developing a balanced framework for making informed decisions about technology, staffing, and client service
